August's Employee of the Month winner is Aisha Mirza, Senior Clinical Psychologist, HSS Psychological Services. Aisha was nominated by Salome Mare-Walsh for the value of Continuous Improvement.
For the 3rd year running Aisha has presented the South Asia Month Event on behalf of the Multi-Ethnic staff network. The event was well attended, and engagement was very good. Aisha facilitated a safe learning environment that all felt safe to ask questions and shared their own experiences. Aisha is always compassionate, helpful and has a positive attitude around improving care not only for the service users in her team/area but Trust wide in as much as she can e.g., via this event. She goes above and beyond, putting others first.
Due to the rich discussions that followed, practitioners who attended left thinking about how they will practice differently e.g., how they will talk to patients in a culturally sensitive way, how they will acknowledge the challenges patients face due to their heritage, asking questions, being open about a willingness to learn about their patient in a collaborative manner and providing compassionate care. Staff fed back that the session was rich and were asking for a longer session next time. The staff will make a positive difference where they work in line with the patient and staff focused anti-racism perfect care goal.
August's Team of the Month winner is Maghull District Nurses. The team was nominated by Samantha Guest for the value of Support.
Maghull district nurses are extremely supportive of each other, even when times are tough and difficult, they are always there to support each other no matter what is going on. It doesn't matter how busy everyone is, you still feel supported, no one ever feels like there's no one to talk or turn to. Everyone can speak freely and openly. I just wanted to nominate Maghull District Nurses and thank them for their support of each other and really showing fantastic teamwork even in difficult times. They are fantastic roles models towards each other, new members of staff and students.
The support the staff provide each other ensures the patients care is delivered safely and effectively. Being a supportive team makes a difference in multiple ways including retention of staff, high morale within staff, good wellbeing, low sickness levels and makes the staff proud to be a district nurse and want to strive for perfect care everyday knowing that they are supported. It encourages staff to want to do better for themselves knowing they will have the encouragement and support from others, this also means the team is more skilled. The team are very dedicated, passionate, hardworking and pay attention to detail. Being supportive of each other makes everyone feel valued. Being supportive enables the team to manage caseloads effectively and prevent burn out. It creates psychological safety for people to be open and honest and able to voice concerns.
