Over the last few months there has been a downward trend in compliance rates for Core Mandatory and Role Specific training in all Divisions.
While it has been a difficult time for all, we ask that all colleagues make a concerted effort to improve their training compliance as this is essential to maintain safety and to meet the trust’s regulatory requirements.
It is therefore essential that all managers use existing reporting systems so that they are aware of current compliance for their teams and that they support colleagues to complete mandatory training at the earliest opportunity.
Being up to date with your training is vital for a number of reasons, therefore refreshing learning isn’t a ‘tick box’ exercise to repeat or reconfirm prior learning. There are different reasons why colleagues need to refresh their learning:
- Introduction of new legislation or new best practice
Staff must be up-to-date with current legislation and best practice and trained in how to apply this to their work
- Introduction of a new risk
This could include new equipment, a change to the environment, policy, procedure, or service delivery method, someone accessing care developing additional support needs, or a new client with different needs
- Timeframes
In some cases, refresher training is required or recommended at specific time intervals. See the mandatory training requirements
- Competency
Competence should be monitored and feedback gathered to ensure that they continue to demonstrate the skills required for their role.
