Each year across the NHS more than 75,000 staff experience physical violence and aggression. This is why the Trust is completing an audit to ensure all staff issued with a Personal Safety Device (formally known as a Lone Worker Device), have one that is in good working order.

To enable the audit, staff must complete a minimum of one Amber Alert during March 2022. It is also Trust policy for staff to complete an entry on the device prior to entering each new location / property.

How to complete an Amber Alert

Press the lower button highlighted below. You will feel three vibrations and the lights will turn solid amber in the screen. A warning triangle will also appear, this indicates the device is recording. Please say your name followed by the word “test”. The recording will automatically stop.

Remember the Personal Safety Device (PSD) will need to be charged prior to completing the Amber Alert. If you take the PSD off charge the device is automatically on. If for any reason your PSD is not working or lost, you MUST contact Reliance Protect on 0800 840 7121 option 1. They will complete testing and replace the device if required.

From the first week of April 2022, a report from the Health and Safety Team will highlight all devices that have completed the test. Any devices identified as not carrying out a test, will be sent to Line Managers for discussion with the identified person linked to the device.
