A big thank you to colleagues who joined this week’s seminar to mark the publication of the book by Joe Rafferty, Amanda Oates and the academic Sidney Dekker. The book, Restorative Just Culture in Practice, describes how Mersey Care came to adopt the principles of Prof Dekker’s ideas, as well as including essays and testaments from experts by experience and thought leaders in the UK and America. 150 staff logged in, including friends from other trusts, a member of Prof Dekker’s team, and our own OE team who lead the ongoing work.

Joining from an Australian winter evening, Sidney Dekker thanked Mersey Care for its commitment and action in delivering culture change. He cited examples of good practice from his time visiting our services. Joe Rafferty started the day off with an observation that adopting the restorative justice approach isn’t an easy option, but it is the right way ahead.

You can see a video of the day, featuring Sidney Dekker, as well as a poem from a nurse in another trust about her experiences, all led by Amanda Oates and OE.

Watch the full seminar below, with an introduction from Prof Joe Rafferty and at 54 minutes, Prof Dekker joins us from Australia.

Watch an extract below of a short performance of two poems about how we’ve responded to culture change.
