December's Employee of the Month winner is Kathleen Marciano, CORE 24 Warrington and Halton Hospital nominated by Emma Jones
"Service Users occasionally self-present at our Reception looking for support, as we have no assessment teams based at the hospital it is usual for us to have to sign post the Service User to the local services that can help them or the Crisis Numbers. this week alone we have had 2 such occasions and, on both times, Kathy has made herself available to support and assist the service users, Kathy was on one of the occasions on her way home at the end of her shift, without a second thought she took ownership of attending to the service user until an safe outcome has been sought. This support has been appreciated so much by myself as well as the service user, I am sure.
Patients feel cared for, listened to, and supported. This support I am sure goes along way to helping services users through their time of Crisis, also they are now aware of the numbers which they can ring if they ever feel like this in future, in order for them to be helped quickly and effectively. I felt supported and appreciated her assistance greatly. This shows commitment to our service and our patients and colleagues. Thanks again Kathy."
The Team of the Month winner is Pendle Drive - Enhanced Houses nominated by Rachelle Flanagan
"The team care for a gentleman who lives in an individual package of care. Due to his complex autism and challenging behaviours of concern he regularly has high levels of aggressive incidents each month. Staff have adopted a more autism informed, person centred approach with him, analysed incident data and advocated for medication review. In doing this it has helped us to achieve a large reduction in his incident’s week on week for the past 5 weeks. We have also seen a reduction in the levels of his aggression. Going from 38 in Nov, to 35, to 28, to 12 and in December just 3. I feel that this definitely demonstrates the Trust value of continuous improvement. They have also been commended at clients recent independent CTR meeting for their knowledge and compassion for our client.
The results of these changes are that the patient is having a better quality of life. By approaching his day in an autism informed way staff have helped reduce his anxieties, helped him to begin to access his community leave on a much more frequent basis and for him to gain back some of his independent skills. Staff morale is boosted due to the lower frequency and intensity of incidents. Staff injury has greatly reduced which positively impacts the service by maintaining safe staffing levels."
