Absent Without Leave (AWOL) Procedure
The purpose of this procedure is to ensure an effective and consistent response to reports of service users who are either detained under the Mental Health Act (MHA) 1983 (as amended 2007) or under Deprivation of Liberty Safeguards (DoLS) as per the Mental Capacity Act (2005) who abscond from an inpatient setting; are absent without leave (AWOL); or fail to return from a period of leave and how to return them safely to the ward if appropriate.

MM-SOP-C-001 - 24/7 Mental Health Crisis Line
The crisis telephone pathway will provide 24/7, open access telephone lines for urgent NHS mental health support, advice and triage. In providing an open access service, there should be no restrictions on who can refer as mental health crisis should be self defined. This would include service users currently open to secondary mental health care services. The aim of this crisis line is to ensure that qualified practitioners receiving calls are able, as part of the telephone screening process, to recognise, respond to, formulate and safety plan clinical risk in order to ensure patient safety is a primary objective of the team. The Mental Health Crisis Line will be staffed by Assistant Psychologists from across all Mid Mersey boroughs.
