Would you like support to eat better, move more and maybe even lose a little bit of weight?

Our redesigned Food for Thought programme may be just the thing to help!

With information learnt on the programme, and by making small tweaks to your eating habits and lifestyle, you could lose up to one and a half stone / 10.5kg in a safe and sustainable way.

Food for Thought is a 12 week rolling programme, where you can book onto the sessions individually to suit your needs.

The sessions will be running via Teams, and are approximately 30 minutes. However, if you would like us to come and deliver a bespoke session to your team at your base, get in touch.

Click on the drop down menu to see session dates and topics.

We encourage colleagues to weigh/measure themselves, taking ownership of their health. We can also offer the opportunity to be measured by one of our facilitators at Hollins Park, V7 or Switch House, or via a mini health check at work

Just ask, and we can arrange it!

All sessions run at 12pm. Click the links to book your place on the session

Below you can read feedback from members of our groups:

April 2023 cohort

''I’m doing great and honestly think joining that course was one of the best decisions I’ve made in a long time. The way you described everything made it easy to understand and I use the information you gave us regularly to check anything I’m unsure of or just to remind me of what I need to keep in mind.

I downloaded the food scanner and easy meals so I’ve got them on my phone to use whenever I need.

I only weigh myself once a month now but when I weighed in last Friday, (28th) I’d lost 18lbs so was down to 187.8 from a starting weight of 206lbs, and I’ve lost 4 inches from my waistline which is probably the most pleasing thing of all. I’ve kept a record in my phone which I use to help keep me motivated.

I’ve changed the way I eat and what I eat so seriously I’m made-up I did the course and have recommended it to everyone here and at meetings I go to.

Thanks for all your support Katie, it’s really been appreciated.''

August 2023 cohort

"I used to buy clothes to hide my body, but now, I'm walking into the swimming baths, and I'm not bothered.

I don't feel deprived, because I'm still eating what I like, it's just a healthier version of it."

We want to make Food for Thought as inclusive as possible to support you with your weight loss goals.

However, as the Health and Wellbeing Facilitators are not registered dietitians or registered nutritionists, exclusion criteria have been put in place, to ensure the safety and wellbeing of our colleagues.

If you answer ‘yes’ to any of the below questions, we advise that you speak with your health care professional for further support.

  • Are you pregnant?
  • Are you currently undergoing treatment for cancer?
  • Do you have a history of eating disorders or disordered eating?
  • Are you currently receiving advice from a registered dietitian or nutritionist?

Whilst on the programme, if any information we give contradicts the information you have been given by your health care professional, we advise that you go with their advice. This is because it has been specifically tailored to your individual needs. The advice you will be given in the Food for Thought programme, is generic advice, which is suitable for most.

The groups will be run by our team of Health and Wellbeing Facilitators whom have previous experience of running group based programmes of this type and have the knowledge to provide the appropriate advice to support weight loss in accordance with the current UK recommendations for a healthy balanced diet.

Participants will be encouraged to weigh/measure themselves, taking ownership of their health. They will also have the opportunity to be measured by a Health and Wellbeing Facilitator if desired and at our base.

We are also offering the opportunity to run a team-specific programme on request, in both virtual and on-site formats. These programmes will be subject to capacity.

Any queries should be directed to wellbeinghub@merseycare.nhs.uk.
