This policy and procedure will provide guidance to community staff in the actions that should be taken when they identify that service users have access to weapons. This policy and procedure has been developed in association with the Police and provides direction as to the issues that should be considered prior to making risk management decisions. The policy separates action into urgent and non urgent.

The objectives of this policy are to describe the standards expected and the supporting processes for 1 Clinical and administrative application of the Mental Health Act 1983 (MHA). 2 Describing the interface processes that exist between the Mental Health Act 1983, the Mental Capacity Act 2005 and the Deprivation of Liberty Safeguards. 3 Monitoring the clinical and administrative application of the MHA. 4 Supporting those applying or monitoring the MHA through cross-referencing with the Act’s Code of Practice and other relevant literature, documentation. Review and monitoring of the above process.

This procedure describes the systems and processes in place throughout Mid Mersey Division, to provide safe and effective care during a clinical emergency situation or resuscitation event. This procedure applies to all staff based within the Mid Mersey Division (this will include Marlowe, Tennyson and Chesterton units based at Hollins Park and Litherland Walk in-Centre due to the locality of these services and the resuscitation equipment they currently use) and provides direction for staff regarding their roles, responsibilities and actions in order to provide care and summon assistance in clinical emergency situations.

The aim of the procedure is to ensure the safe and effective care planning, prescribing and administration of Buccal Midazolam when prescribed for status epilepticus.

The Recovery Team provides core hours of a 9am-5pm Monday – Friday service. (However flexibility is built into these hours depending upon service user need). The Recovery Team accepts referrals from the Trusts secondary Adult Mental Health Teams, the Criminal Justice Liaison teams, Older Peoples Services (for those with functional conditions) and the inpatient wards. Integrated teams with the local authority also accept direct referrals.

The purpose of this SOP is to provide structured guidance for clinical and non-clinical staff utilising tasks within EMIS Web; the electronic patient record system.

Medical Appraisal and Revalidation Policy NWBH The aim of this policy is to ensure that all licensed medical practitioners (doctors) with a prescribed connection to Mid Mersey Division (formerly North West Boroughs Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust)undergo a high quality and consistent form of annual medical appraisal.

The purpose of this procedure is to ensure an effective and consistent response to reports of service users who are either detained under the Mental Health Act (MHA) 1983 (as amended 2007) or under Deprivation of Liberty Safeguards (DoLS) as per the Mental Capacity Act (2005) who abscond from an in-patient setting; are absent without leave (AWOL); or fail to return from a period of leave and how to return them safely to the ward if appropriate.

The aim of the process outlined in this document is that all members of the Board of Directors, the Executive Team and their Direct Reports have been subject to relevant the Fit and Proper Persons Test on an annual basis.
