Our 24 hour CAMHS Response Team is for young people up to the age of 18 experiencing a mental health crisis requiring an emergency assessment. As part of the Trust’s children and young people’s crisis transformation plans, the team have now launched phase two (as of 31 October 2023).

MM-SOP-A-009 - Children's Eating Disorders
The aim of the service is to provide Children and Young People with an Eating Disorder Service which is fully integrated within a Community Children/Young People's Mental Health Service. This Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) describes the operational aspects from first referral of point of entry into CEDS to discharge from service. The SOP includes the relevant referral pathways, depending on priority and or signposting on to other services.

MMP03 Administration of Discretionary Medicines
This procedure allows trained and authorised registered nurses to administer from a limited list of medication to hospital inpatients without being prescribe by a doctor, in situations where a delay in administration would be detrimental to the patient.

MM-SOP-H-001 - Halton Recovery Team Procedure
The Recovery Team provides core hours of a 9am-5pm Monday – Friday service. (However flexibility is built into these hours depending upon service user need). The Recovery Team accepts referrals from the Trusts secondary Adult Mental Health Teams, the Criminal Justice Liaison teams, Older Peoples Services (for those with functional conditions) and the inpatient wards. Integrated teams with the local authority also accept direct referrals.

MMD-PROC-001 - Animals in Healthcare Procedure
The benefits and contribution that assistance dogs, therapy and pet animals offer in enhancing the quality of life and care experience is well documented, especially in mental health. In certain circumstances, animal visits to ward and clinical areas may be allowed if a thorough risk assessment has been undertaken and any identified risks are managed appropriately, as such visits have been shown to have numerous psychological and physical benefits which may outweigh the infection control issues.

SD28 Use of Seclusion and Long Term Segregation
This policy and procedure provides clear guidance on the use of seclusion and long-term segregation within Mersey Care NHS Foundation Trust. It allows the Trust to demonstrate that the use of restrictive practices meet and uphold the guiding principles of the Mental Health Act Code of Practice (2015) and that they remain proportionate, least restrictive, last for no longer than is necessary, and take account of patient preference wherever possible.
