SD28 Use of Seclusion and Long Term Segregation
This policy and procedure provides clear guidance on the use of seclusion and long-term segregation within Mersey Care NHS Foundation Trust. It allows the Trust to demonstrate that the use of restrictive practices meet and uphold the guiding principles of the Mental Health Act Code of Practice (2015) and that they remain proportionate, least restrictive, last for no longer than is necessary, and take account of patient preference wherever possible.

The core objectives for secure services are to assess and treat mental disorder, reduce the risk of harm that an individual exhibits to others and to support recovery (Appendix 1: NHS Standard Contract for Medium and Low Secure Mental Health Services). The service addresses need associated with a diverse and complex degree of underlying disorders with some being persistent over the lifespan.

MMP01 Safe Management of Controlled Drugs
This procedure is to ensure the legal requirements of the Medicines Act 1968, the Misuse of Drugs Act 1973, the Misuse of Drugs regulations 2001, The Health Act 2006 and the Controlled Drugs (Supervision of Management and Use) (2013) Regulations in terms of prescribing and managing CDs are complied with while ensuring that patients who require them have access to controlled drugs in a timely fashion.

SA07 HS5 Workplace Inspections
The purpose of this policy is to provide information and guidance to Mersey Care NHS Trust directors, managers and staff on their responsibilities concerning health and safety at work. This policy applies to trust employees and anybody who is or may be impacted upon by work activities of the trust. The trust has a duty to ensure that all workplace risks are managed appropriately. This policy has been developed in line with guidance from the Health and Safety Executive. The scope of this policy applies to all activities and functions undertaken by, or on behalf of, the trust.

MMP23 Safe Use of Valproate
This procedure provides guidance to ensure that valpoate treatment is appropriately and safely used in accordance with regulatory requirements for all female children and women of childbearing potential. It advises health care professionals of the actions to be taken to educate patients on safe use of valproate and ensure awareness of the potential risk of birth defects and congenital malformations associated with taking valproate in pregnancy.
