Specialist Services Learning Disabilities Team are hosting a free Learning Disability Awareness Day, open to all Mersey Care staff.
The aim of the day is to help staff:
- understand what a learning disability is
- understand how mental health difficulties present in people with learning disabilities
- understand why service users with learning disabilities and mental health problems have the same rights to access mental health services as anyone else
- look at some specific areas where it can be difficult to support someone with a learning disability (such as communication difficulties) and how to manage this
- look at the roles of mental health and learning disability services and how they can work more effectively together.
