Join Royal College of Nursing for our annual Black History Month conference this October - Anti-Racism: A Time for Literacy and Transformation.

The online event aims to explore:

  • Anti-Racism – what it is, what does it look and feel like and why is it important?

  • Literacy – how people develop a narrative around race and racism when they are having conversations (spoken and written). How do you educate yourself?

  • Transformation through leadership – what is happening locally.

  • Better understanding of anti-racism and why literacy is important.

We're excited to confirm that the event will be hosted by Karl George from the Governance Forum and we have a great line up of confirmed speakers including:

  • Professor Janelle York, Executive Chief Nurse, The Christie NHS Foundation Trust

  • Anthony Hassall, Regional Chief People Officer, NHS England and NHS Improvement

There will be a lively Q&A session with a great line up of guests who will be talking about their own experiences and answering your questions.

They include:

  • Raj Jain, Chief Executive, Northern Care Alliance NHS Group

  • Evelyn Asante-Mensah OBE, Chair of The Board of Directors, Pennine Care NHS Foundation Trust

  • Jonna Munday, Chief Executive and Founder, You HR Consultancy Ltd

  • Kim Johnson MP, Member of Parliament for Liverpool Riverside

We'll be hearing and getting a greater perspective on how music can contribute to campaigning and getting your voice heard from Hannabiell  from Ladies of Midnight Blue who are an Afro-Latin percussion & brass duet comprised of Hannabiell Sanders (Bass Trombone, African & Latin Percussion and Composer) and Yilis del Carmen Suriel (African & Latin Percussion). They create a powerful and upbeat fusion which reaches deeply into trance drum rhythms to create a melodic sound that inspires dancing and audience participation.

Then we'll be wrapping up the day with some special awards for those who have made outstanding contributions to BAME work across the region.

The event is free and is open to both RCN members and non-members but booking is essential.   We are looking forward to welcoming you on the day!
